Event Recap: Jersey City is Leading the Way on Electric Vehicles

On Tuesday, April 23, Jersey Renews and Environment New Jersey joined Jersey City to celebrate Earth Day with a call to state legislators to pass S2252/A4819 which addresses pollution from cars, trucks, and buses in New Jersey via investment in electric vehicle infrastructure. Mayor Steven Fulop, Ward E Councilman James Solomon, Ward B Councilwoman Mira Prinz-Arey, and Ward A Councilwoman Denise Ridley urged state leaders to follow Jersey City’s lead to electrify transportation.

We were also joined by 6 and 1/2 year old Matteus, who was shadowing Mayor Fulop as the mayor for a day. Matteus sported a fedora decorated with cars and lightning bolts, fitting for the day’s event.

After the press conference, Mayor Fulop test drove an electric car for the first time. Councilmembers Prinz-Arey and Ridley also had their first experience in an electric car, and were impressed by how quiet the cars run.

Ronald Tuff, Greenfaith; Norah Langweiler, campaign organizer for Jersey Renews; Jeff Tittel, director of New Jersey Sierra Club; Ashley-Lynn Chrzaszscz, Representative of ChargEVC; Ben Haygood, Isles; and Amy Goldsmith, NJ state director for Clean Water Action.
