Today, the Governor delivered his State of the State address, highlighting change in New Jersey that Jersey Renews and many of our close partners have worked to enact over the past year. We were glad to hear to governor hold steady on his commitment to offshore wind and other renewable energy, an electrified transportation system, and creating good, union jobs as we innovate towards a clean energy economy.

These efforts, both from the administration and advocates, have helped begin to transform New Jersey into a safer, more equitable, and more sustainable environment for workers and working-class families.

As always, there is more work to be done. In 2020, Jersey Renews and our partners would like to see the administration, and the New Jersey legislature take action on:

  • Transitioning medium- and heavy-duty vehicles to electric with a focus on short-haul trucking and transport.
  • Developing a supply chain for offshore wind that ensures unions jobs for local residents and capitalizes on secondary and tertiary industries like manufacturing and transportation.
  • Preserving the money in the Clean Energy Fund for clean energy projects.
  • Improving transparency, accountability and safety related to trains carrying crude oil and other hazardous substances in New Jersey.
